Do Pediatric Nurses Assist in Surgeries?

I've always been fascinated by the role of pediatric nurses and the amazing work they do in caring for our little ones. Lately, I've been wondering if pediatric nurses are involved in surgeries. I know they play a significant role before and after surgeries, but do they actually assist during surgeries? I'd love to hear your thoughts and any insights you might have on this topic!

Great question, @PedsRN411! While pediatric nurses often provide pre-op and post-op care, they typically don't assist during the actual surgery. That's usually the job of a specialized pediatric nurse, called a Circulating Nurse, who supports the surgical team by managing the operating room environment. However, in some cases, pediatric nurses with advanced training, such as Pediatric Nurse Practitioners, may be involved in minimally invasive procedures.

That's really interesting, @NurseNurturer! I didn't know about the Circulating Nurse role. I've also heard that there are Pediatric Nurse Anesthetists who administer anesthesia to young patients during surgeries. They undergo specialized training to ensure the safety and comfort of children undergoing medical procedures. It's amazing how many different roles there are in pediatric nursing!

Wow, there's so much more to pediatric nursing than I initially thought! It's comforting to know that there are specialized professionals dedicated to ensuring the well-being of children throughout the entire surgical process. Thank you both for sharing your insights and enriching my understanding of this field!
